Energy Storage

The Power Module > Energy Storage Edit Board is broken out into the following segments. Each of these segments relates to defining the battery for the spacecraft.

For more details on the specifics of each of these segments, please view the adaptive guidance in the Module's design capture interfaces.

Battery Cells#

Battery cells are used to assemble the battery packs that will power the satellite. Cells can be swapped in and out to test different cell technologies within your mission architecture.

Battery Packs#

Battery packs compose the battery (or "Energy Storage System") and each pack exists as a discrete Component within the system. Battery packs can be entered manually or imported from the COTS library by clicking "Import from COTS Library".

Battery System#

The battery provides power to the spacecraft when the solar arrays are not able to generate the power consumed by all the active loads. The battery is composed of one or more packs, each of which are treated as an individual heat source, as they are often located in different parts of the satellite.

Battery packs can be connected in series or parallel and the high-level system parameters that are derived from the cells (min state of charge (SoC), max charge current, and max discharge current) can be overridden in this segment as another layer of control.
